The recruitment industry took a bit of a hammering during the recession (that’s your traditional British understatement) and consequently many firms went to the wall.
Since then, things have gradually improved and new recruitment businesses have been founded (we are one of them!) and, in many cases (us again!) prospered. However, across recruitment as a whole there are some concerns as the warning signs light up for the world and UK economies. Let’s not get defeatist though: recruitment may be a highly competitive business, but for those with the skills, determination and enthusiasm, it’s a great way to make a living and to make a real contribution to the success of firms the length and breadth of the country, in turn helping to keep the wheels of commerce turning and economic growth going.
That’s why, earlier this year, we were delighted to be approached by the Recruitment & Employment Confederation for some thoughts and comments to be used in their new publication, “The Scale Up Workbook”. This is a first-rate publication that REC has produced: it provides a useful guide on growing your recruitment firm and offers information and guidance to directors on how best to develop their business. As the REC website says, “it’s been designed to be a practical tool … evidence based and … packed full of real life examples from people who’ve been there and done it themselves.”
